The Steam Deck is an amazing portable gaming machine, with one problem. Storage space. No matter how much storage you have for your deck, you will inevitably hit the max storage capacity at some point. Syncthing is a great tool for the Steam Deck because you can set it up to sync items from your deck, to another computer automatically. For details on how to install and configure Syncthing, see my post: Syncthing.
Decky Recorder #
This plugin makes it possible to record your gameplay on Steam Deck with no external hardware and the videos look great! Simply install the plugin and start recording. This is one of my favorite plugins but it definitely eats up storage space. Syncthing makes this a non factor. We can configure Syncthing to have Steam Deck push new videos to your Server. You can delete these videos on the Server, or move them somewhere else, and this will then delete them on the Deck, freeing up space and allowing you to record more.
To set this up, follow the instructions below.

For this explanation, Server means whichever device you are syncing your Videos to.
- In Syncthing on your Steam Deck, create a new folder pointing to
/home/deck/Videos. NOTE: If you have changed the save location to another directory, use that instead. - Edit the config for this folder and Share it with your Server.
Syncthing on Server #
- In Syncthing on your Server, accept the share from Steam Deck.
- Click Save.
